Habit Project Day 1

34 comments:

  1. I usually get a snack on the way home from school but instead I went home and had a pear and a glass of water. On some days I usually have chips or some other fat food.
My mom sometimes goes to McDonald's etc.to get her lunch. Today my mom went to McDonald's. It was very hard not to order anything especially when there is a big board of fattening foods in front of you. I simply told my mom I didn't want to order anything. I wanted to see how I could handle breaking my habit without my mom knowing. I told my mom about the habit project and she said she will join in and do the same. I felt very good about myself that I could break one of my worst habits. The pear and the water ended up being very refreshing.

  2. As soon as I get home, I normally plop down on the couch and reach for my phone to go on instagram, snapchat, etc; but this time I moved my phone and IPad over to the dining room and proceeded to do my homework on the couch. I didn't turn on the TV, which is surprising for me, and I finished my homework in peace. After I finished, I had an urge to just go on my phone for just a quick moment, but moved on to go outside to play with my dogs. I almost slipped up and went on my phone, but ended up pushing through.

  3. My bad habits that I am trying to break are cracking my knuckles and constantly snacking in between meals. I crack my knuckles so often that I don't even realize I do it. It is very tempting to crack my knuckles. Even though I cracked my knuckles a lot today I did stop myself from doing it 3 times today. I thought that it is a good start. I totally forgot about trying to stop snacking and the first thing I did when I got home from school was go to the fridge. Tomorrow I will try to avoid hanging out in the kitchen so I can prevent myself from staring at all the food so I am not tempted.

  4. About every night I get out of the shower and go on my phone. I browse through my instagram feed and watch YouTube videos. Going on my phone before bed is a habit that I would like to break. Usually because I am laying in bed and not yet tired I go on my phone because it is right next to me. I am hoping that instead of going on my phone and not really doing anything productive, I will read a book. I love to read and I know that I don't do it nearly enough. To make sure that I follow through with this plan I will keep my phone downstairs as I go up to bed. I will use my iPod as my alarm. (I deleted all my apps so I wont be tempted to go on it.) I think I will enjoy this because I really do love to read. The only thing that will make me miss my phone is thinking if I have any new texts or snapchats. I am looking forward to this project and I wish good luck to everyone! :)

  5. Hello! My bad habit is going on my phone before I go to bed. I have to post this before because I would have to go on my phone to post it if I posted later, which is not allowed. I am feeling very nervous at just the thought of staying away from my major source of entertainment for three hours, but I have some strategies. I will not charge my phone and let it die so I cannot use it. I will instead go for a run, shower, do homework, then read until I go to bed. I can tell this assignment is going to be very difficult, but I am enjoying reading about your struggles so I feel less alone. Good luck guys, we can do it!

  6. I am trying to give up chewing the inside of my cheek (which I do, ALOT) and stop eating things when I'm bored. Instead of grabbing chips or cookies or something, I'm going to try to drink water and make have a small piece of fruit. I'm also going to try to eat better portions and healthier food. Today I had almonds for a snack, but I'll try to eat fruit. I bit my cheeks a little bit today, but I'm trying to close my mouth completely and focus on things around me. Tomorrow I will be more focued on trying to break my bad habits.

  7. As soon as I get home I go straight to my cabinets and grab a bag of chips and watch t.v. Today, When I got home, I ate some grapes and started to do my homework right away. I told my mom about my habit and she has agreed not to buy junk food. And because I tend to eat snacks as I watch t.v. I went to the YMCA and had fun with some of my friends. And because watching too much t.v is another habit i am trying to break, I'm reading a new book I bought instead. Hopefully I can do as well as I did today tomorrow, but I know we can all do it!!!!

  8. i usually go home and sit on the couch and watch t.v.or listen to music but instead i went outside and i went to Newton Square Park and played basket ball with Allan,Bradley, and Nana. Tomorrow i am going to do the same thing instead of being on the couch being lazy all day. In order to break my habit i am going to go home after school and get changed then head out to the park and play basketball and hopefully make more friends.

  9. Henno! My bad habit is going on my phone a couple hours before I go to bed. I'll be on my phone for like one minute and then the next minute it's been like an hour and a half. Which is not good. So instead I'm going to read a book. Which will be interesting. Also on most days I will be having softball for 2 hours so that will probably make me a little bit more tired and let me go to sleep earlier. Also I won't be charging my phone all the way so it will die faster and I won't be able to use it. I will be giving my phone to grandma or have them put it some where, where I can't find it until the next morning. I know this is going to be hard for me but I know I can do it!

  10. One of the worst habits I have as of late is waiting for the last minute to do homework. So I have decided to rid myself of this bad habit especially since I am am going to High school. I have noticed what triggers me to procrastinate and it includes laying down, using my phone, video games and being hungry. So I have come up with a strategy to combat this distractions. Instead of laying down after school I instead sit down at my desk (after getting a snack) and start my homework. My phone was left on the kitchen counter so I would not get distracted. And finally I am happy to report I got my homework done immediately and did not use my Phone. So far so good! :)

  11. This year I've made a habit of going to sleep once I get home from school, and now I have to take a nap every day or I'll be lazy and tired for the rest of the day. Today I got home and almost fell asleep on my couch, but I occupied myself with doing my homework. Then I cleaned my room and washed the dishes. After that T went to Newton Park to play basketball with Matt, Bradley, and Nana. I hope to keep this schedule every day when I get home. Tonight I'll try to sleep at 10:30, which is 2 hours earlier than usual, so I won't be too tired when I get home.

  12. So my bad habit is that i go on my ipod when i am doing nothing. I do this when i am procrastinating doing my homework or not doing my chores. I am going to stop this by doing something productive like my homework, walking the dog, doing chores, cleaning my room, ect. Today was good because i always had something to do. I was reading all of your comments and you guys are all doing really hard stuff so good luck and good job.

  13. Hi, I have two bad habits . One of them is going on my phone before bed and the other one is eating junk food . Triggers for going on my phone are being bored and laying on my bed . A trigger for me eating junk food is eating dinner late causing me to snack on junk food . I'm am going to avoid going on my phone by working out in my basement before bed or because I have dance late I'm usually tired anyways. I'm going to try to avoid eating unhealthy by chewing sugar free gum or eating more fruit to avoid being hungry.

  14. My bad habit is watching tv and my trigger is while I do my homework, I would watch tv at the same time and I would do less of my homework. To break my habit today I watched a little bit of tv and hung out with my friend and with his friends too. I got home and did my homework outside because I can't do it in my house I have tv in the living room, my room, and my moms room. when I finished my homework, I started to watch little bit of tv and now I am going to bed.

    1. What took the four hours? Was it all the things you did with your cousin? If so sounds like a productive day!

  16. My bad habit is staying up to late instead of getting a good night rest. My trigger is usually when it gets night time, I like to stay up and eat a snack or whatch tv. For to break this habit is to take the batterys out of the remote so that I won't be able to turn on the tv. Also I can start read or draw to tire me out.

    1. This is sophia by the way.
My bad habit is playing video games or watching the tv when I get home. Some triggers are boredom and laziness. Today when I got home I took a shower, ate a snack, and did my homework( besides this). I only watched two hours of tv.

    2. This is a very tough habit to break because you cannot avoid your trigger. Nighttime is unavoidable and I would say your bed is a trigger too. You might have to change the activities you do during the day so you are more tired at night. Example getting up earlier, this will be hard for a bit but such is life. It may take a week or two or four to get used of but it is tough to go to bed earlier if your not tired earlier so your strategy may have to be to implement new habits during the day!

  17. I have a bad habit of playing video games for too many hours which ends up being 4. Whenever I go home, I finish my homework around 4:30-5:30 and play video games from 6 to 8:30. Though today, I finished my homework and played from 6 to 7, leaving off the other 2 hours in which I read I book.

  18. Today I got home from school and i went straight to the table to do my homework which I finished in an hour. That gave me a lot of time to get ready for my baseball game and time to relax afterwards. I was kind of tired after school but I did my homework early anyway and I took a short nap afterwards.

  19. At night I have a bad habit of using my phone late at night and staying up too late causing me to be tired the next morning. Tonight I am going to put my phone on the other side of the room and turn off my notifications so I will not see any texts from anyone. I do need my phone to be in my room because it is my alarm clock and my parents can not wake me up in the morning. Instead of using my phone I am going to pick a book off of my shelf and read it. I don't read enough so this will be a good way for me to occupy myself.

  20. Whenever I wake up late I have a bad habit of chewing gum and heading to school instead of brushing my teeth this morning though I got out of bed and instead of going to get gum since I am late I still go brush my teeth anyway

  22. Every day when i get home from school I usually sit around and do nothing. Today was different. When I got home i started doing my homework. after about thirty minuets i decided to take a break. I went outside in my driveway and shot hockey pucks. After that i went for a 1.5 mile run. It felt good to do a little bit of my homework and get some physical activity in too. i think that this habit project is good for all of us students to make and break some bad habits and replace them with good ones.

  23. Today when i got home instead of watching tv or going on my phone/tablet i went for a little run. When i got back from my run, i started my homework, and by the time you are reading this i will be studying for my quiz tomorrow. This is going to be different for me though because usually i study before i go to school, i desided to change that habit though because next year i would be in school by the time i started studying for most of this year. Tomorrow morning i will post once more for my first day to inform you with how i was able to ignore going on my phone/tablet before i went to bed.

    1. I was able to avoid going on my phone/tablet by shutting them both down completely. What i used instead of my phone was a book, and although i usually go to bed earlier anyways, like9:30ish i was able to read for 30min. Instead of being on my phone for 30min.

  24. Usually when I get home, I put off homework for as long as I can. I pretend I am tired, sick, or some other excuse that will never work in high school. Today instead of just going home and using my phone, I ran about 3.4 miles causing me to get home at around 5. Sense I got home late I ate dinner right away and instead of using my phone or watching T.V. I started on my homework as fast as possible. And I got done with it reasonably quickly. In order to break my bad habit of putting off homework, I am going to stop being lazy, start running again, no longer watch T.V. and just do my homework first thing after I get home

  25. When I got home today instead of watching tv for an hour then doing my homework. I went outside and road my bike for an hour. In order to break my bad habit of sitting on the coach and watching tv I'm going to go outside.

  27. My bad Habit is I like to watch YouTube videos in the morning.I usually get up around 6am get ready for school, then sit down at the table until 8:30am watching videos and eat breakfast. This is one habit I really would like to quit. I think my triggers are my I-pad is right next to my bed. I get up to early, and can"t wait to finish a video I been watching. I"m going to try and sleep a little long.I could use the sleep. Move my I-pad somewhere else. Think of other things to do with my time.

  28. My bad habit was that from 4:00-5:30 I would just sit around and watch tv or use my phone throughout that time. The triggers are the couch, my phone, and tv. To avoid this bad habit I would be more active and walk around or do homework to keep my self occupied. Today I went to the boys and girls club, got there around 3:30 and I walked around and said hi to people. At around 3:50 I started to do my homework and study. So instead of just using my phone throughout that time I did my homework and study.
